| 裏面の説明 | The reverse features a bold, high-relief portrait bust of the French fabulist Jean de La Fontaine occupying the right-hand field, rendered in a baroque style evocative of 17th-century portraiture. To the left of the portrait, a dramatic assembly of animals drawn from La Fontaine's celebrated Fables surrounds the numeral '400' — including a crow perched within a circular halo, a wolf, a fox, a hare, and a tortoise, the latter two referencing the famous fable of the hare and the tortoise. The monogram 'RF' and the date '2021' appear in the lower left field, while the legend 'JEAN de La FONTAINE 1621–1695' curves along the upper right rim, commemorating the 400th anniversary of his birth. |

La Fontaine's Fables — published in twelve books between 1668 and 1694 — were nominally written for the young Dauphin but were widely understood as pointed commentary on Louis XIV's court, with the lion rarely flattering to read as metaphor. This issue belongs to the Monnaie de Paris' long-running series commemorating figures enshrined in the Panthéon, where La Fontaine has lain since his remains were transferred there in 1817, alongside Molière's — though Molière's presence remains a matter of some historical dispute, the bones possibly not being his at all.
