Reverse description The reverse features a bold, high-relief portrait bust of the French fabulist Jean de La Fontaine occupying the right-hand field, rendered in a baroque style evocative of 17th-century portraiture. To the left of the portrait, a dramatic assembly of animals drawn from La Fontaine's celebrated Fables surrounds the numeral '400' — including a crow perched within a circular halo, a wolf, a fox, a hare, and a tortoise, the latter two referencing the famous fable of the hare and the tortoise. The monogram 'RF' and the date '2021' appear in the lower left field, while the legend 'JEAN de La FONTAINE 1621–1695' curves along the upper right rim, commemorating the 400th anniversary of his birth.
