| Reverse description | The reverse features a bold, high-relief portrait bust of the French fabulist Jean de La Fontaine occupying the right-hand field, rendered in a baroque style evocative of 17th-century portraiture. To the left of the portrait, a dramatic assembly of animals drawn from La Fontaine's celebrated Fables surrounds the numeral '400' — including a crow perched within a circular halo, a wolf, a fox, a hare, and a tortoise, the latter two referencing the famous fable of the hare and the tortoise.
