Reverse description A bold facing effigy of the Portuguese Modernist painter Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso dominates the right side of the field, his features rendered in high relief with expressive, sculptural detail. To the left, an abstract Cubist composition evocative of the painter's characteristic style is engraved in fine lines. The legend 'PINTOR AMADEO DE SOUZA-CARDOSO' arcs along the upper periphery in Latin capitals. The birth and death dates '1887' and '1918' appear at the lower left within the design, while the centenary commemorative year '1987' is inscribed to the lower right of the effigy.
