正面描述	At right, an intaglio portrait vignette of Aires de Ornelas is set within an oval frame, his name inscribed below; to the left, an unprinted circular space marks the watermark area. The centre bears the denomination CEM ESCUDOS in large letterpress type over a multicolour guilloche underprint incorporating a globe motif, with the Portuguese royal arms vignette positioned below centre. Two manuscript signatures appear at the foot of the note, captioned O ADMINISTRADOR and O GOVERNADOR respectively.

背面描述	At left, the circular seal of the Banco Nacional Ultramarino encloses an engraved vignette of a sailing vessel at sea, with the inscription LISBOA-1864 along the lower arc of the seal. The central field is occupied by an elaborate multicolour guilloche rosette underprint in green, violet, and orange, with an unprinted circular watermark space reserved to the right. The denomination CEM ESCUDOS appears in a rectangular panel at the foot of the design.
