| Obverse description | At right, an intaglio portrait vignette of Aires de Ornelas is set within an oval frame, his name inscribed below; to the left, an unprinted circular space marks the watermark area. The centre bears the denomination CEM ESCUDOS in large letterpress type over a multicolour guilloche underprint incorporating a globe motif, with the Portuguese royal arms vignette positioned below centre. Two manuscript signatures appear at the foot of the note, captioned O ADMINISTRADOR and O GOVERNADOR respectively. |
