Singapore's Lunar New Year bullion series has been issued annually since 1990, making the rabbit the twenty-second entry in an unbroken run. The Monetary Authority of Singapore produces these in close coordination with the Singapore Mint, with distribution heavily weighted toward the regional gift-giving market — the majority of each year's mintage moves through Singapore and Malaysia in the weeks surrounding the new year holiday rather than through conventional numismatic channels.
