| Obverse description | The complete arms of the Republic of Namibia occupy the central field, comprising a heraldic shield divided diagonally and charged with a sun motif, flanked by two rearing oryx as supporters, and surmounted by a fish eagle with wings displayed. Namibia's marine environment — particularly the Benguela Current system off its Atlantic coast — supports one of the world's most productive fisheries, and the late 1990s saw the newly independent nation (independence came only in 1990) actively asserting jurisdiction over those waters through domestic legislation and international agreements.
