Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, this coin holds particular relevance for Solomon Islands — the archipelago was the site of some of the Pacific theater's most brutal fighting, including the Guadalcanal campaign of 1942–43, which cost tens of thousands of lives across both Allied and Japanese forces and effectively halted Japan's southern advance.
