| 背面描述 | The reverse features a bold right-facing portrait of Sir Winston Churchill in high relief occupying the right portion of the field, with a detailed background scene depicting the Houses of Parliament and the tower of Big Ben alongside a superimposed Union Jack flag. The commemorative dates 1874 and 1974 flank the curved legend MAN OF THE CENTURY · at the upper periphery, marking the centenary of Churchill's birth. The name CHURCHILL appears in bold lettering across the lower central field, with the denomination 100 DOLLARS inscribed immediately below, separated by a fine rule. |

Issued the year before the Cook Islands gained self-governing status under New Zealand's umbrella, this piece belongs to a wave of commemorative gold struck by Pacific island territories in the early 1970s — many of which used Churchill's image as a reliable commercial draw for the collector market rather than from any particular political connection. Cook Islands had no meaningful historical tie to Churchill.
The Franklin Mint produced a significant portion of these Pacific commemorative issues during this period under contract arrangements. Fr#1 placing this as the first listed gold issue in Friedberg's catalog for the territory reflects how new the coinage program was.
