Ned Kelly was hanged at Melbourne Gaol in November 1880, and the armour he fabricated from ploughshares — which stopped multiple police bullets at the Glenrowan siege before a shotgun blast to his unprotected legs brought him down — survives today in the State Library of Victoria.
