Beschrijving keerzijde Central depiction of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, rendered in high relief, showing the carved granite portraits of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln from left to right across the upper field. In the lower field, a heraldic American bald eagle with wings spread is shown facing left, clutching an olive branch in its talons. The legend 500 YEARS OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, the commemorative dates 1492-1992 descend along the right border, and the denomination 100 DOLLARS appears along the lower periphery, each flanked by a raised dot. The mirror-like proof fields accentuate the sculptural depth of the central motifs.

Aanvullende informatie

Cook Islands operated one of the most prolific commemorative programs of the early 1990s, issuing large-format silver pieces under licensing arrangements that had little to do with the islands themselves. This Mount Rushmore piece was part of a wave of American-themed issues timed to the memorial's 50th anniversary in 1991 — the formal dedication of the completed sculpture having taken place in October 1941, just weeks before Pearl Harbor effectively ended any further celebration.
