| Descripción del reverso | The reverse of this triangular gold coin presents a dramatic central depiction of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) retourschip Zeewijk under full sail, shown with billowing sails and riding ocean waves, rendered in high relief against the open field. The ship is framed by an elaborate baroque cartouche composed of ornate foliate scrollwork and rigging ropes descending from the upper apex, where the VOC monogram cipher appears prominently at the summit. A ribbon banner below the ship bears the name ZEEWIJK and the date 1727 in incuse lettering, flanked by decorative scrollwork incorporating a ship's wheel on each lower corner. The fineness and weight inscription 1oz .9999 Au appears along the lower border beneath the banner, accompanied by the engraver's initials AS. The overall design evokes the period aesthetic of 18th-century Dutch maritime cartography and East India Company heraldry. |

The Zeewijk was a Dutch East India Company (VOC) vessel that wrecked on Half Moon Reef off the Western Australian coast in 1727, stranding 208 men. Over the following months, survivors salvaged timber from the wreck and built a makeshift vessel — the Sloepie — eventually reaching Batavia with only 88 alive. The wreck site, rediscovered in the 1960s, yielded VOC silver ducatoons and other cargo that had lain undisturbed for over two centuries.
The Royal Australian Mint has drawn on documented shipwreck archaeology for this series, and the Zeewijk is one of the most historically significant VOC losses in Australian waters.
