The skull is rendered with exceptional sculptural depth, its open jaws exposing prominent canine teeth. Surrounding the central motif is a decorative border composed of eight circular medallions, each containing an individual animal footprint or paw print in relief, separated by stylized grass or reed motifs. The curved legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs across the upper field, with the date '2026' immediately below it, while the denomination and fineness inscription '100 DOLLARS 1/10 oz Au 999.9' appears along the lower portion of the inner circle. Liberia's numismatic program has long operated as a revenue-generating exercise rather than a reflection of domestic monetary policy — the country has used the US dollar in everyday commerce since the early 2000s, making its own coinage essentially a collector product from the outset. The cave lion (Panthera spelaea) died out roughly 13,000 years ago, leaving no particular connection to Liberian history or geography.
