Reverse description The scene depicts HMS Merlin, a Royal Navy sloop, flanked by two Baymen gun flats advancing toward the enemy fleet, all rendered within a raised circle. The composition commemorates the pivotal naval engagement of 10 September 1798 in which British settlers and their allies repelled a Spanish fleet. The commemorative legend arcs around the upper and lower portions of the reverse field, with the dual date 1798 - 1998 completing the inscription.
