| Obverse description | The central vignette combines a view of the Great Wall of China to the left with the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong to the right, rendered in red tones over a fine guilloche underprint. A large calligraphic centenary logotype — the numeral '100' in bold brushstroke style — dominates the centre of the note, with the denomination in both Chinese characters and English below. A gold holographic patch at the lower left bears the Chinese characters for 'commemorative', and the issuer's circular logo appears at the top centre alongside bilingual bank name legends. |

The Bank of China was founded in 1912 under the Republican government as a replacement for the Qing-era Ta-Ching Government Bank, making 2012 the genuine centenary — not a rounded approximation. Hong Kong operations have been continuous through several political ruptures that would have ended lesser institutions.
De La Rue's Gateshead facility, formerly the Portals subsidiary site, handled the sheet-fed production. The holographic stripe on commemorative issues from this period used De La Rue's proprietary GEMINI thread technology.
