Obverse description The obverse is engraved in a dark intaglio style on a brown and orange guilloche underprint. To the left, an oval vignette contains a bust portrait of King Edward VII in military dress uniform. The centre bears the denomination ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS in a bold countersigned panel, with the issuing legend BANK OF HAMILTON at the top, the place and date HAMILTON, 2nd JAN, 1904 to the right, and the promise clause WILL PAY TO BEARER ON DEMAND surrounding the central cartouche. Numeral counters 100 appear in all four corners, and two manuscript signatures appear along the lower margin above the titles PRESIDENT and PROVINCIAL MANAGER.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in a rich brown monochrome with an elaborate lathe-work guilloche pattern at centre, incorporating a large numeral 100 superimposed over concentric engine-turned rings and flanked by ornate acanthus scrollwork. The bank title BANK OF HAMILTON is set across the upper portion, with DOMINION OF CANADA and ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS in framed panels to the right. Numeral counters 100 are repeated in the upper-left and both right corners within scalloped borders.
