Beschrijving keerzijde Central device comprising the official emblem of the 9th Mediterranean Games: four interlocking rings above a stylized representation of waves, evoking both the Olympic tradition and the Mediterranean Sea. Above the central device, a curved Arabic legend spanning the upper field identifies the games. The Hijri year 1403 appears to the right and the Christian year 1983 to the left, flanking the central motif. At the bottom, the denomination '100' in Latin numerals is flanked by the Arabic word for dirhams on either side, all within a rope-beaded border.

Aanvullende informatie

Morocco hosted the 9th Mediterranean Games in Casablanca in September 1983, the first time the Games had been held on African soil. The event was a significant diplomatic moment for Hassan II, who had spent much of the early 1980s navigating the Western Sahara conflict and international pressure — hosting a pan-Mediterranean sporting event was a calculated exercise in projecting stability. Bank Al-Maghrib issued this 100 Dirham piece specifically for the occasion, one of the relatively few Moroccan commemoratives of the period struck to .925 fineness rather than the lower standards used for circulating silver.
