The denomination appears in the lower portion of the field, rendered in both Cyrillic and Latin scripts. Yugoslavia hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo — the first Winter Games held in a socialist country. The organizing committee's success in winning the bid over Sapporo and Gothenburg in 1978 was widely seen as a diplomatic achievement for Tito's non-aligned Yugoslavia, though Tito himself died in 1980 and never saw the Games. The commemorative coin program issued for Sarajevo was extensive, with multiple denominations and series released across silver and gold.
