Beschrijving keerzijde A large, centrally positioned Dove Orchid (Peristeria elata), the national flower of Panama, is depicted in high relief with two partially opened buds flanking the main bloom on either side. The flower's distinctive dove-like interior is clearly rendered within the open petals, lending the design a naturalistic and elegant quality. A beaded border frames the composition along the inner rim. The legend PAZ Y PROGRESO arcs along the upper periphery, and the date 1978 is inscribed along the lower periphery, also within the beaded border.

Aanvullende informatie

Panama's 1978 gold issues were produced for the international collector market during the Torrijos years, when the government actively used commemorative coinage as a foreign exchange mechanism. The Dove Orchid — Peristeria elata, Panama's national flower — was declared the national floral emblem in 1980, meaning this coin actually predates that official designation by two years.
