The Hijri date '١٣٩٠' (1390) appears in large Eastern Arabic numerals along the lower portion of the field. A fine denticled inner border runs along the coin's rim. |

This coin belongs to the final year of Said bin Taimur's rule — a reign defined by deliberate isolation. Said banned education, hospitals, and most modern infrastructure, convinced that development would corrupt Omani society. His own son, Qaboos, overthrew him in a bloodless palace coup on July 23, 1970, exiling Said to London where he died the following year. Coins bearing Said's name from 1970 were struck in the closing months before that coup, making them the last gasp of one of the most reactionary governments of the twentieth century.
