| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing portrait bust of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), depicted wearing spectacles and traditional royal attire with an ornate collar visible at the truncation. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail. A Thai script legend curves along the upper and lower periphery of the field within a beaded border, identifying the monarch and the issuing state. |

Issued as part of a wave of Thai commemorative silver struck in the early 1970s, this piece was produced to support — and draw international attention to — wildlife conservation efforts at a moment when Thailand's forests were under severe pressure from logging concessions and the residual environmental damage of the Vietnam War era's defoliation campaigns across the region. The .500 fineness was a deliberate cost compromise to allow wider distribution without sacrificing the commemorative silver format.
