| Opmerkingen |
Darmstadt's municipal treasury issued this note during the hyperinflationary spiral of 1923, when German cities, towns, and even private firms were authorized to print their own emergency money — Notgeld — to fill the gap left by a Reichsbank unable to produce currency fast enough to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power. By the time 100,000 Mark denominations were entering circulation in mid-1923, that sum was already losing meaningful value within days of issue.
Heedt u. Ganss, a local Darmstadt printing firm, produced the note — one of dozens of municipal issues the company turned out that year under considerable logistical pressure.
