| Opmerkingen |
The 100,000 Livres is the highest denomination ever issued by Banque du Liban and was introduced partly in response to the chronic inflation that followed Lebanon's fifteen-year civil war — by the time it appeared, the Lebanese pound had lost roughly 98% of its pre-war value against the dollar. The denomination is not an emergency measure but a permanent fixture of a dollarized economy where even routine transactions require large nominal sums in local currency.
Pick 89 belongs to the commemorative series marking the 40th anniversary of Banque du Liban's founding in 1964, giving this note a dual function that is somewhat unusual for a top-denomination issue.
