| 备注 |
Landkreis Essen — the administrative district surrounding the city proper — issued this note independently of the city of Essen itself, a distinction that confuses collectors more often than it should. By August 1923, when 100-million-mark denominations became necessary for daily transactions, virtually every German municipality, district, and cooperative had emergency printing authority. The Landkreis exercised that right here.
The hundred-million figure sounds staggering but was briefly mundane — within weeks of notes like this entering circulation, they were already obsolete against the accelerating inflation that would peak in November 1923.
