| 正面描述 | Draped bust of President Mobutu Sese Seko facing left, wearing glasses and his characteristic leopard-skin toque, depicted in a realistic portrait style. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU ZAIRE curves along the upper periphery, while the signature J. D. MOBUTU appears in the lower field below the bust. The portrait is rendered with fine detail, occupying the central field of the coin. |

Issued to commemorate the opening of the Hotel Intercontinental in Kinshasa, this coin was part of Mobutu's broader campaign to project modernity and legitimacy onto the newly renamed Zaïre — the country had shed its colonial name, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, just months earlier in October 1971. The gold issue was never intended for general circulation; it was a prestige piece aimed at foreign dignitaries and investors Mobutu was courting during his authenticité cultural program.
Mintages were small and collector attrition has been limited, making survivors relatively easy to find in original condition.
