| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central depiction of the Byodoin Phoenix Hall (鳳凰堂), a celebrated 11th-century Buddhist temple located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, rendered in fine relief and occupying the full width of the field. The temple complex is shown in a symmetrical frontal elevation with flanking pavilions and traditional curved rooflines, framed by stylised cloud and wave ornamental motifs. The legend 日本国 (State of Japan) arcs across the upper field, with the characters 日 and 国 flanking the central temple motif at left and right respectively. The denomination 十円 (Ten Yen) appears in large characters in the lower field, also framed by decorative foliate and cloud elements. The entire design is set within a raised rim with an incuse border. |
