Beschrijving voorzijde Central field features the national arms of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in colour, depicting a hydroelectric power station before a mountain, framed by sheaves of rice and a red star above. A circular legend in Hangul script runs along the upper rim identifying the issuing state, with the date '2010' at the lower left and denomination '10원' at the lower right. The legend '중앙은행' (Central Bank) appears prominently in the lower field beneath the arms. The overall design is set against a darkened, polished field typical of non-circulating commemorative issues.

Aanvullende informatie

North Korea's commemorative coinage program has long functioned as a hard currency operation rather than a numismatic one — these pieces were minted explicitly for foreign collectors and never intended to circulate domestically, where the won's practical use was tightly controlled by the state distribution system. The Kaesong Industrial Complex, active from 2004, made the city geopolitically charged by 2010: a rare zone of inter-Korean economic cooperation operating under North Korean labor and South Korean capital, which gives any Kaesong-themed issue from this period an uncomfortable irony.

KM#1262 belongs to a sprawling series of brass-struck collector pieces that the DPRK exported through intermediaries, primarily in Europe and China.
