Frederick Augustus III ruled Saxony from 1763 until 1806, navigating the electorate through a period of cautious fiscal reconstruction after the Seven Years' War had effectively bankrupted the state. These gold 10-thaler pieces were struck at the Dresden mint across more than a decade, functioning less as everyday currency than as prestige instruments — gifts, diplomatic payments, and court transactions among the Saxon nobility.
