Beschrijving voorzijde Central intaglio vignette of Sebastián de Benalcázar, the Spanish conquistador and founder of Quito, set within an ornate oval cartouche with scrollwork surrounds, against a pink and dark brown guilloche underprint. Denomination numerals "10" appear in scalloped rosettes to the left and right, flanked by serial numbers and the series designation, with the issuer's name in bold letterpress across the top. Three facsimile signatures appear at the base, attributed to the Gerente General, Superintendente de Bancos, and Vocal, with the place name "Quito" and date below the left serial number.

Beschrijving keerzijde The coat of arms of Ecuador is rendered in intaglio at center, showing the national shield with Mount Chimborazo and a steamship on the river, surmounted by a condor with outstretched wings and flanked by four national flags with a fasces at the base. Large guilloche-framed denomination numerals "10" occupy the left and right panels against a dense teal blue lathe-work underprint incorporating repeated text. The issuer's name runs along the top border and "DIEZ SUCRES" is inscribed in a bold panel at the foot of the note.

Opmerkingen

Ecuador's central bank leaned heavily on Thomas De La Rue through much of the 1980s, a period when the sucre was under sustained pressure from commodity price volatility and a debt crisis that forced repeated devaluations. The 10 Sucres denomination, modest even at issue, was losing purchasing power fast enough that notes in this series had relatively short useful lives before inflation rendered them effectively worthless for everyday transactions.

By 1988 the denomination was being phased toward irrelevance — the 1,000 Sucre note was already circulating. A decade later the entire currency would be abandoned for dollarization.
