Issued to commemorate the city of Bishkek, this is part of the National Bank's ongoing "Cities of Kyrgyzstan" series, which began producing silver collector pieces in the early 2000s as a deliberate revenue and cultural documentation exercise — a pattern common among Central Asian republics establishing numismatic programs following Soviet dissolution. Bishkek itself was renamed from Frunze in 1991, shedding the name of the Bolshevik military commander Mikhail Frunze, who was born in the city.
