| Obverse description | Within a raised inner circle, two classically adorned celestial figures rendered in high relief occupy the central field, both wearing elaborate headdresses and traditional ornamental jewellery; the left figure is depicted in profile holding a palm leaf manuscript, while the right figure faces three-quarters and holds a decorative fan, evoking the Sigiriya fresco apsaras associated with the Matale district. A stylised rock formation rises in the background, referencing the region's ancient heritage. The trilingual district name appears as a legend along the upper periphery, reading மாத்தளை in Tamil to the left, මාතලේ in Sinhala at the top, and Matale in Latin to the right. The date 2013 is inscribed at the base of the inner circle. |
