| Obverse description | A detailed frontal view of the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil (Hindu temple) dominates the central field, depicted within a raised inner circle, showcasing the ornate gopuram (tower) surmounted by tiered decorative sculptural elements and a colonnaded entrance hall with arched gateway. The trilingual place name legend arcs along the upper periphery, reading in Tamil (யாழ்ப்பாணம்) at left, in Sinhala (යාපනය) at center-right, and in Latin script (Jaffna) at right. The date 2013 appears in the lower exergue beneath the inner circle. The eleven-sided flan is bordered by a partly raised rim with faceted edges characteristic of the hendecagonal format. |

| Additional information |
The Jaffna 10 Rupee was part of a 2013 series honoring Sri Lanka's nine provinces, issued just four years after the end of a civil war that had made Jaffna — the Tamil cultural and administrative center of the Northern Province — one of the most contested and isolated cities on the island for nearly three decades. The Northern Province itself had been without a functioning provincial council since 1988, a gap only closed by elections held later in 2013, the same year this coin appeared.
