Bradbury Wilkinson printed Ceylon's banknotes for decades, but by the time this series appeared, the country had been Sri Lanka for over a decade — yet the Central Bank of Ceylon name persisted on notes well into the 1980s, a deliberate legal and institutional holdover as the bank's formal name was not changed to match the republic's 1972 renaming. The tension between "Ceylon" on the note and "Sri Lanka" on every map was a routine bureaucratic oddity rather than any political statement.
Bradbury Wilkinson's New Malden facility closed when the firm was absorbed into De La Rue in 1990, making this among the final Sri Lankan issues to come off their presses.
