Transnistria — officially the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic — is an unrecognized breakaway state that has maintained a functioning parallel economy, central bank, and commemorative coin program since declaring independence from Moldova in 1990. The Pridnestrovian Republican Bank issues collector coinage with a consistency that belies the territory's precarious diplomatic status; no UN member state recognizes it.
The steppe ferret (Mustela eversmanii) has suffered dramatic range contraction across the Pontic steppe, largely through agricultural conversion of grassland habitat and prey collapse from rodenticide use.
