Reverse description The nickel plated steel centre depicts a panoramic cityscape of Rybinsk, featuring the domed Transfiguration Cathedral and the bell tower of the Saviour-Transfiguration Cathedral prominently in the middle ground, with a modern arched bridge spanning the Volga River in the foreground. The coat of arms of Rybinsk is displayed in the upper centre of the inner disc above the architectural scene. The legend ДРЕВНИЕ ГОРОДА РОССИИ arcs along the upper portion of the brass ring, and the city name РЫБИНСК is inscribed along the lower arc of the ring.

Additional information

Rybinsk sits on the Rybinsk Reservoir, one of the largest artificial bodies of water in the world when it was completed in 1941 — a project that required the forced displacement of over 130,000 people and the deliberate flooding of several towns, including the historic city of Mologa. The reservoir's creation was a defining Soviet-era trauma for the region, and the modern city's identity is partly shaped by that submerged history.

This piece belongs to the long-running "Cities of Russia" bimetallic series, which the Bank of Russia has issued continuously since 2002.
