Fujairah was among the smallest and most isolated of the Trucial States, with no oil revenue of its own and a population of only a few thousand when this piece was struck. The "Mohammed Apollo XIV" title commemorates the Apollo 14 lunar mission of early 1971 — though the coin was dated 1970, likely anticipating the launch. Fujairah issued dozens of such commemoratives in this period almost entirely for the collector export market, with negligible quantities ever reaching domestic circulation.
