Bradbury Wilkinson's contract work for Brunei during this period predates the 1984 independence declaration, meaning early printings within the 1976–1986 range were issued under the 1959 Agreement with Britain — Brunei remaining a protectorate while managing its own currency through the Brunei Currency Board. The political status of the issuing authority actually shifted mid-series without a note redesign, a quiet anomaly that the Pick catalog does not flag.

Brunei, Singapore, and Malaysia had maintained currency interchangeability since 1967; by the time this series closed, only the Brunei-Singapore parity agreement survived intact, a arrangement that remains legally in force to this day.
