The date is divided to the left and right of the central numeral, with two digits appearing on each side. The surrounding circular legend PORTUGALIAÆ.ET.ALGARBIORUM.REGINA runs along the entire periphery in Latin, denoting the royal title of Queen of Portugal and the Algarves. The design is rendered in the baroque style typical of late 18th-century Portuguese coinage, with the reeded border providing a crisp frame. |
