| Obverse description | The Portuguese royal coat of arms, depicting a crowned castle gateway with a portcullis and flanking towers, occupies the central field. The crown above the shield features a decorative arch with prominent pearls. The mint letters M and E (for MoçambiquE) flank the shield to left and right respectively, serving as the mint mark for Mozambique. The design is characteristically crude and irregular, consistent with hammered colonial coinage of the period. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays the royal cipher of King João V in the central field, comprising the letter I flanked by two small o numerals, forming the denomination indicator IIo signifying 10 réis. A small circular pellet or annulet appears above the cipher, noted as being slightly out of its expected position. The numerals are large and boldly struck, occupying most of the flan, with the surface showing the characteristic irregularity of hammered coinage. The field is otherwise plain and unadorned. |
