| 裏面の説明 | The courtyard of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus is rendered in a detailed intaglio vignette occupying the central and left portions of the note, with the minarets and arcaded galleries clearly delineated. A large blank watermark oval appears at right. The inscription "CENTRAL BANK OF SYRIA" runs across the top, with "TEN SYRIAN POUNDS" and the date "1968" along the lower margin, flanked by the numeral "10" in decorative panels at each side. |

Syria's Central Bank was established in 1956 following the dissolution of the Banque de Syrie et du Liban, which had operated under French concession since the Mandate period. This series bridges an unusually turbulent stretch — 1958 marked the formation of the United Arab Republic with Egypt, which technically suspended Syrian monetary independence until the union collapsed in 1961. Notes from the earliest dates in this range were issued under a government that no longer formally existed within months of printing.
The series ran long enough to span three distinct constitutional arrangements, which is why date verification matters here more than it might for a shorter-lived issue.
