| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central design features a detailed depiction of the Prophet's Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi) in Medina on the left, with its distinctive dome and minaret, alongside a fortified Islamic architectural structure on the right. Rising centrally between the two buildings is a stylised tree bearing two cartouches in its branches, each inscribed in Arabic with the names 'Allah' (الله) and 'Muhammad' (محمد). An ornate arabesque scroll decorates the lower central field. Above the central composition, a short Arabic inscription in the upper field denotes the 15th Hijri century. The coin is framed by a reeded border with an inner beaded rim. |

The 15th Hijri Century commemorative issue marked the Islamic calendrical milestone of 1400 AH, which fell in 1979–1980 CE — a moment several Muslim-majority states chose to commemorate in metal. Sudan's version was ambitious in denomination for a country whose economy was already under considerable strain from debt accumulated during Nimeiry's failed industrialization programs of the 1970s. That the prueba exists in aluminium, a metal wholly impractical for a 10-pound piece, suggests die trials were being evaluated against multiple planchets before a final composition decision.
KM# Pn2 designates this as a pattern entry, almost certainly produced in minimal quantity for internal approval purposes.
