| Beschrijving voorzijde | Within an octagonal format, the large numeral '10' occupies the central field, enclosed by an inner pearl circle. A circular legend reading 'STADT ST.GEORGEN' arcs around the upper portion of the pearl border, with 'Schwarzwald' and the date '1918' completing the inscription in the lower arc. An outer pearl border follows the contour of the octagonal flan. The denomination numeral is rendered in bold relief, dominating the composition. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse depicts Saint George, clad in armour, on horseback, thrusting a lance downward to slay a dragon prostrate beneath the horse's hooves. The composition fills the central field in dynamic relief, with the saint shown in profile facing right. A pearl border follows the octagonal edge, and the curved legend 'ST GEORGEN Schwarzw.' arcs along the upper periphery between the pearl border and the design. |

Sankt Georgen im Schwarzwald issued this notgeld piece in 1918 as the German imperial supply chain collapsed under the pressures of the fourth year of war. Small denomination coins in copper and nickel had effectively disappeared from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply not replaced — forcing hundreds of municipalities to produce emergency coinage independently. Iron was the unsentimental solution: abundant, officially sanctioned as a substitute material, and deeply unpopular with the public who found it prone to rust in pocket or purse.
