The legend STADTGEMEINDE is arranged in a wide arc across the upper portion of the coin, with HAMMELBURG similarly curved along the lower portion, the two inscriptions separated on each side by a small six-pointed star. The date 1917 is prominently struck in large numerals at the centre of the field, conveying the purely typographic, utilitarian character typical of German World War I Notgeld coinage. |
