| Obverse description | Beaded border encircles a central motif referencing the coal mining industry, depicting a sun with radiating beams above a mining scene. A raised solid-line inner circle frames the central device. The legend GOTT SEGNE DEN KOHLENBERGBAU STADT HAMM runs along the periphery between the beaded rim and the inner circle, in Latin script. The overall design reflects the industrial character of the city of Hamm and its association with Westphalian coal production. Varieties exist with the central sun depicted with either 40 or 42 radiating beams. |

| Reverse description | Beaded border surrounds the central design, which features the Coat of Arms of the city of Hamm positioned at the upper center of the field. The date 1919 is divided on either side of the coat of arms, with 19 appearing to the left and 19 to the right. The denomination numeral 10 is inscribed at the lower center of the field below the coat of arms. The reverse layout is symmetrical and typographically spare, consistent with the utilitarian character of German notgeld coinage of the post-World War I period. |
