Ardeltwerke was a major crane and heavy machinery manufacturer in Eberswalde, Brandenburg, and like many large German industrial firms during the First World War and its chaotic aftermath, it resorted to issuing its own Notgeld to pay workers when the Reichsbank could not supply adequate small change. Factory-issued zinc pieces of this kind circulated exclusively within the plant's own payment ecosystem — company canteens, works stores, wage accounting — and rarely traveled far beyond the factory gate.
