Beschrijving voorzijde Central field bears the heraldic shield of Deggendorf, depicting a fortified tower or gatehouse with crenellated battlements above a masonry wall, surmounted by a mural crown. The municipal coat of arms is rendered in relief within a baroque-style shield outline. The circular legend STADTGEMEINDE DEGGENDORF arcs around the upper periphery, flanked by two small five-pointed stars at the lower sides. The date 1919 appears in the lower field beneath the shield. The coin's border is decorated with a continuous beaded ring.

Aanvullende informatie

Deggendorf's 1919 iron notgeld was a direct consequence of the postwar metal shortage that left German municipal governments scrambling to keep small transactions functional. The Reichsbank's inability to supply adequate coinage through 1918–1919 pushed hundreds of Bavarian towns to issue their own emergency pieces, most in iron or zinc — materials that no one wanted but everyone had. Deggendorf, a modest market town on the Danube in Lower Bavaria, was among the smaller issuers, which accounts for the relative scarcity of Funck-listed examples today.
