Bonn-Siegkreis was one of hundreds of German administrative districts that turned to locally issued Kriegsgeld in 1917 as the imperial government's metals requisitioning stripped copper and nickel from circulation entirely. Zinc was the fallback — abundant enough, but poorly suited to striking clean coins, which is why so many examples from this issue show weak definition at the rims regardless of actual wear. The dual-district attribution is uncommon for notgeld of this type; most issues came from a single municipality.
