| Beschrijving voorzijde | Printed in red and dark brown on a grey-blue ground, the obverse bears the municipal coat of arms of Bad Salzuflen at centre, surmounted by a mural crown, with stylised radiating foliate underprint filling the field to either side. Bad Salzuflen's wartime Kleingeldscheine were a direct response to the severe coin shortage that gripped Germany from 1916 onward, as metal was requisitioned for the war effort and small change effectively vanished from daily commerce. The Magistrat, like hundreds of other municipal authorities, stepped in to fill the gap — the Bega-Werke, a local printing firm, produced these notes without the resources or security infrastructure of a national printer.
Local production on civilian presses meant inconsistent ink coverage and paper stock that ages poorly. Foxing and brittleness are common problems specific to this issue.
