Obverse description Central device consisting of a hammer and compass superimposed upon two crossed wheat stalks, symbolising the alliance of the working class, the peasantry, and the intelligentsia, derived from the emblem of the GDR Five-Year Plan. The design is rendered in low relief against a plain field. The date appears in the lower portion of the field beneath the central emblem.

Reverse description The numeral '10' displayed prominently in the centre of the field, flanked on each side by a four-pointed star. The country name 'DEUTSCHLAND' arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 'PFENNIG' is inscribed below the numeral. The mint mark appears to the right of the denomination, separated by a small ornamental cross serving as a divider in the encircling legend.
