Lage is a small town in the Lippe region — historically part of the independent Principality of Lippe, not Prussia — and this 10 Pfennig note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept German municipalities in 1921 as postwar inflation began eroding the usefulness of small coins. Thousands of towns issued their own emergency paper in this period, but the presence of a watermark on a low-denomination municipal note from a town this size is worth noting; most comparable Kleingeldscheine skipped that expense entirely.
